Encouragement for the Soul

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. Luke 10:38-40a. Choose a bible study and may it bring hope, peace and encourage you in your walk with Christ Jesus as LORD of your life.

Purpose? Meaning to life?A Kingdom for a Purpose With God's view of the future shining brightly before him, Isaiah went about reinterpreting history. Others in Judah looked upon military invasions as terrible catastrophes. In contrast, Isaiah--though he felt anguish over the events--saw glimpses of a higher purpose.

I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it [the gospel] fearlessly, as I should. Ephesians 6:20 Time on His Hands Prison offers authors one precious commodity: time to think and reflect. When Paul wrote his prison letters, he was no longer journeying from town to town, stamping out fires set by his enemies. Settled into passably comfortable surroundings (probably confined to a house), he could slip off his sandals and devote attention to lofty concepts. Unlike Paul's other letters, Ephesians does not address any urgent problems. With a sigh of relief, the apostle turned to the grandest question of all: "What is God's overall purpose for this world?" Paul answers the question this way: "To bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ" (Ephesians 1:10).

Positive Approach"I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received" (4:1). Already Paul has taught that Christ lives in each Christian--we are his body. Now he exhorts his readers to think through what it means to represent Christ in the world. When people look at Christians, do they see the qualities of Christ on display? Life Questions: Suppose you were put in prison. What kind of letters would you write?

The WORD of GOD
Everything for a Purpose Like such a biographer, John wrote his book about Jesus for a similarly limited purpose, which he states very clearly: "These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name" ( JOHN 20:31). The book is not so much a biography as an argument. Its author has handpicked incidents to demonstrate that Jesus is unlike any man who has ever lived; he is the Son of God.
